Photography
As a performer, the use of photography for documenting works is of great importance. But once a camera at hand, there is so much more to see and document than just performances. With the ability to capture light, movement and experiences it is possible to capture a moment that otherwise might have been long forgotten. The camera has become a magical tool full of exciting opportunities. Below are some of the latest captured moments.
Photo Exhibition at Farnham, August/ September 2024: Appearance (2024)
Appearance is an ensemble of works, representing three connecting series of photographic images. Each series shows seven images, symbolizing the seven days of the week, expressing the roles we play. Within a weekly routine, daily chores become part of us as a ritual. We wake up, have breakfast, shower, dress and go to work. Depending on where we are in the seven days, we dress, act, and behave in a certain way. The kitchen adapts to the activities we perform. This process is expressed with the tools and accessories seen in the kitchen as a workspace and shows in how we represent ourselves. In the display, each image is presented on a dismantled part of a storage box now turned into a frame. This accentuates the domestic quality of the installation.
As a singer and performer, representation is of great importance and a lot of preparation goes into creating and embodying a character. An outfit to accompany a song, or a song to accompany an outfit, aids in entering the emotional realm to lay down an oral and visual platform. By surfacing the awareness of roleplay and identity, this realization has now been taken a step further by creating a series of portraits expressing roles performed in daily life as well as a performer. Where the kitchens show awareness of the privacy and activities behind the scenes, the windows show the transformation from behind those scenes to the various characters represented as portraits.
